In September 1947 a group of innovative parents, community leaders and dedicated volunteers gathered to create services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families. Today, The Arc of Essex County is a private, non-profit agency serving people who live in and around Essex County. It is one of the most preeminent organizations of its kind in the tri-state region, providing resources to nearly 1500 individuals and their families in over 42 distinct services and programs at 35 locations through both traditional and self-directed options. Services include: Residential, Adult Day, and Children, Family and Community Services. The Arc continues to be reflective of the input of innovative individuals and their families, ever growing to meet the challenges and new directions of our constituents.
