Why We're Doing This
One of our patients was essentially bedbound because she was so short-of-breath, but totally with it mentally and emotionally. She was isolated in her home because of COVID, and her dog meant everything to her. Our Pet Peace of Mind volunteer went faithfully, twice a week, to walk the dog, and provide companionship to the patient. Through donated funds and grants, we were also able to pay for food, grooming, and veterinary care when the dog was having mouth pain and needed to have 22 teeth pulled!

The girls
We are supposed to share a photo of a pet that has passed...well all three in this photo have. Buster, Sonoma, and Zoe. Buster we got in 1998 from a friend who found kittens in her property. She was a cranky old girl! Sonoma was my love (I feel like I have had her soul once before in my Torty BJ and currently with my cat, Voodoo). I adopted Sonoma from the Humane Society after BJ passed away. And then Zoe....she was another kitten found at a co workers house. I was only going to watch her for the weekend, but on the way home..we stopped at the vet, got some kitten supplies, and called it good. All three of them "grew up" with me in my 20s and 30s. Each lived between 16 and 18 years old. I will always remember them.

Del, age 11.5
This is our boy Del. My husband found him while hunting in Montana in 2010. Searched and searched for owners..but no where to be found on a snowy mountain. He has been with us ever since. He is only about 8 to 9 months in the photo when he was found.

We say "Dog", Roxanne says Bigger!
This is Roxanne, who organized four local VCA animal hospitals to join together in sponsoring the Walk-n-Wag this year. She has another superpower - she and her family bring animals from their property once a month to visit residents at Prestige Senior Living Orchard Heights. She sent photos of the horse, goat and pony they brought to the August visit. What a wonderful way to share the love of animals!

Dallene Connell & one of her Darling Dogs
My aunt Dallene passed away on Aug. 3rd. She was a dog lover who cherished her dogs throughout her life. Luckily my aunt knew my uncle and cousins would continue to love and care for her dog, after she was gone, for the rest of it's life????. Unfortunately not all people are that lucky. Which is why we named our team in honor of my aunt and her memory. I know she would have loved the idea of helping people and pets in their time of need. She was a truly kind and loving individual who was willing to assist others during difficult times.
