ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Bringing the best of Broadway to the Tennessee Valley for over 60 years

Founded in 1959 by the Business Professional Women’s Club, Broadway Theatre League of Huntsville Inc. began as a fundraising opportunity by presenting a national touring Broadway production. The women of the BPW’s Club took the opportunity and turned it into a cultural staple for the community. Headed by Louise Rodgers, BTL grew and established a great following with patrons waiting years for better seating. Many great stars have made their way through Huntsville, such as Ann Sheridan, Joan Bennett, John Carradine, John Raitt, Robert Goulet, Joan Rivers, Bob Newhart, and many more. In 1975, BTL moved to the brand new Von Braun Center Concert Hall. The facility allowed BTL to grow exponentially by presenting more than one performance of each season show and currently presents 5 or more performances. In the early 1990’s, the reigns of BTL were handed over to the VBC for a couple of seasons after the retirement of Louise Rodgers. In 1996, BTL found new life with new leadership and a new board. A revived mission was set to entertain and educate the citizens of the Tennessee Valley. Since 1996, BTL has grown into one of the largest non-profit arts organizations in the community. Annually BTL presents a full-slate of Broadway touring shows, children’s theatre and celebrities of stage and screen. BTL’s continued longevity centers around presenting the best quality product, new and innovative educational programming and continued community support. The Student Outreach programs reach 10,000 students from all walks of life for free educational theatrical productions. The past, present and the future of BTL centers on our community.
