ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

Helping children & youth with autism to grow in flourish in their families & communities

The Birchtree Center transforms the lives of children and youth with autism in northern New England. Since our nonprofit first opened its doors in 2002, the number of students with autism in New Hampshire has increased nearly sixfold. Over that same time, Birchtree has provided over half-a-million hours of one-on-one programming and instruction to students with autism at school, at home, and in our community. Thirty-one public school districts in New Hampshire, Maine, and Massachusetts rely on Birchtree’s autism expertise. Last year, Birchtree’s experts helped 118 students with autism and behavioral challenges to remain successfully enrolled in their local public schools. Our staff traveled 60,204 miles to serve these students in their schools and family homes. For students who need even more intensive support, Birchtree’s day school in Newington is the only school in New Hampshire that serves students with autism exclusively. Some students travel over three hours per day every day to attend this year-round, one-on-one program staffed by autism experts.

Our Mission

The Birchtree Center exists to promote independence, engaging relationships, and productive lives for children and youth with autism at home, at school, and in the community.
