ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION
Cut Military Spending. Fund Human Needs
Founded in 1977, Peace Economy Project is a nonprofit organization dedicated to addressing the social and economic impacts of militarized spending. Based in St. Louis, Missouri, our organization works to educate the public, influence policymakers, and promote transformative community projects that prioritize human needs over defense budgets.
Our Vision:
We envision a world where resources are directed toward education, healthcare, affordable housing, and environmental sustainability rather than fueling conflicts and perpetuating inequality. Through grassroots advocacy and innovative programs, we aim to create thriving communities built on the values of peace and equity.
What We Do:
• Policy Advocacy: We campaign to reduce excessive military spending and redirect funds toward critical social services.
• Community Engagement: PEP organizes educational events, webinars, and advocacy campaigns to inform and empower citizens.
• Research and Reporting: We produce in-depth analyses on the economic impact of militarization and alternative models for community investment.
• Youth Training: We partner with youth organizations to train the next generation of peace advocates.
• Local Projects: Through initiatives like the “Move the Money” campaign, we push for localized commitments to invest in public needs over military priorities.
Impact:
• Successfully advocated for legislation prioritizing police accountability and reducing gun violence.
• Hosted multiple events, including a Valentine’s Day Vigil Against Gun Violence and “From Arms to Renewables” webinars, highlighting the need for policy transformation.
• Empowered hundreds of activists and community members through workshops and fellowship programs.

Our Mission
The Peace Economy Project researches military spending, educates about the hazards of an unchecked military-industrial complex and advocates for conversion from a military- to a more stable, peace-based economy. We focus our attention on local weapons manufacturing, arms proliferation and worldwide militarization. We collaborate with other organizations to raise consciousness about where our tax dollars are invested and to encourage others to reinvest in their communities.
